The Standard Model is the most comprehensive physical theory ever developed. This textbook conveys the basic elements of the Standard Model using elementary concepts, without the theoretical rigor found in most other texts on this subject. It contains examples of basic experiments, allowing readers to see how measurements and theory interplay in the development of physics. The author examines leptons, hadrons and quarks, before presenting the dynamics and the surprising properties of the charges of the different forces. The textbook concludes with a brief discussion on the discoveries of physics beyond the Standard Model, and its connections with cosmology. Quantitative examples are given, and the reader is guided through the necessary calculations. Each chapter ends in the exercises, and solutions to some problems are included in the book. Complete solutions are available to instructors at www.cambridge.org/9781107406094.

Review
"There are many gems within these pages... The author has managed to bring out the importance of experiment in the field, and to explain both the reasoning and the difficulties behind these experiments, but does not get bogged down in minutiae. We are left with an excellent introduction to the thinking behind modern quantum field theory."
Dr. Todd Huffman, Oxford University
"Students who want to study these esoteric matters would be well advised to digest this excellent book first."
Lewis Ryder
"The bottom line, however, is that as a particle physicist I enjoyed Bettini's book three times - not unlike a fine wine: the first time when admiring its contents; the second when reading it; and a third time when teaching from it. Bravo, Sandro!"
James W Rohlf, Boston University for CERN Courier
"He has a talent to render complicated things as simple and clear as possible. His phrasing is very agreeable and effective. ... Bettini provides the reader with a deep insight of the main steps which have brought to the present formulation of the Standard Model, with its essential ingredients, its limits and open questions. His description is fluent and appealing."
Il Nuovo Saggiatore
"... provides (postgraduate and advanced undergraduate) students with an admirably clear account of the Standard Model. ... The prose is consistently fluent and interesting, the author's knowledge up-to-date and detailed and the explanations admirably lucid. ... excellent book ..."

tensors and more tensors
By Andres Betts
Most introductory books in quantum mechanics and particle physics use several mathematical approaches in describing and solving physical problems. Alessandro Bettini is locked in "tenor land" with no alternate description. Other reference books are of limited value, since the Bettini description does not translate well to non-tensor descriptions of particle physics. There are always multiple mathematical means to describe any physical process, but for my taste, the tensor method is limited and more difficult to cross reference with other descriptions.
I had to send the book back. Frank Close and David Griffiths materials are much more readable and easily cross referenced for better understanding of the material.

Textbook errors annoying
By In the name of love
For the most part there are a lot of convenient features when you have a textbook on kindle so I recommend that in general. My problem was with the kindle version of this textbook specifically. There were a few errors, not a lot, but enough to be annoying and get in the way with doing problems. I wish I had just bought the paper version. The errors seemed to occur usually when an equation or special characters were used. Instead of the proper equation, other variables completely unrelated to the section would be inserted. It was very frustrating.

Piece of Crap
By Guy
The problems are very poorly worded and the sections seems scrambled as many problems will relate to chapters ahead of where you are in the book or chapters from much much earlier the book. It fails to execute or reinforce lessons learned within the chapter. One of the worst books I've ever been forced to use by an out of touch professor.
