Don't Waste Your Money

This is not a travel book. In fact I'm not sure what it is supposed to be. We are planning to drive the highway from Vancouver to Winnipeg in July (2016) so I read that section hoping to get ideas for stops and interesting towns along the way. I did not find any useful information. None. Nada.
There are vignettes clipped from historical material, but they are brief and disconnected. The rest of the book is mostly self-indulgent anecdotes. I really do not care that the author did his first tandem parachute jump. (Obviously it turned out OK.) I also do not care that he almost lost his car keys at a restaurant. That is the level of trivia we are given here.
But the back of the title page explains all. This is really a vanity press book, with various pieces of the Canadian government paying for its publication. No need for a good writer, then.

If you are planning a trip along the Trans-Canada Highway, this would be a good place to start. Talks a little about the history as well as some little known facts and places.
