Basic, good starter book, excellent pictures, 32 pages

It is listed as a level 1 and in that regard I would say it is accurate. It is a bit more advanced then some of the level 1's out there which have only 3-8 words per page. This book has 10-20 words per page and actual developed sentences. Most of the rest of the page is made up of large colorful photos from the "Pirates" (not Disney's Pirates of the Carribean) Lego line which was produced from 1989 to 2010.
My 1st grader likes it (but does get distracted ocassionally by the photos) and although he can read higher level books, this one is nice in that it is easy enough to help him get a good reading flow going, but not be so easy to bore him. As he loves Legos it is easier to get him to read a "themed" book vs. something generic he isn't interested in. He will also grab this when not asked to read as he likes looking at the photos. I will catch him mouthing the words on the page as he looks though. I would recommend for the beginning reader in Kindergarten or 1st grade.

Cute pictures...no story

This book has some very nice pictures of Lego soldier and pirate minifigures and their castles and ships. However, it doesn't really have a story. Each page basically has a description of what is shown in the picture. My son loves Legos and Lego books, but this book is not one of his favorites. I don't enjoy reading it to him either.

Great Story Bad Read Along...

My 3 1/2 year old is a HUGE pirate fan.. The story line is awesome and can you get any better than Legos and Priates at the same time??! My son saw this book and he was so excited to hear the "pirates" talk on our reader. The voice of the narrator was painful to say the least. Really slow and drawn out. He had to settle for his moms pirate talk instead. I made up for the loss by my enthusiastic cannon blast sounds though!!
Great story and it would have been a 5 start for my tot with better narration!
