A Texan, Andrews readily admits her bias for regional cookery, but she includes dishes from European, Southeast Asian, and African cuisines that use peppers in various forms. About the Author
Jean Andrews is the author of The Pepper Trail: History and Recipes from Around the World, the winner of the 2001 Jane Grigson Award recognizing distinguished scholarship and presented by the International Association of Culinary Professionals. She is a distinguished alumna from the University of North Texas, where she received her Ph.D., and from the University of Texas at Austin, where she received a B.S. and was also named to the Hall of Honor of the College of Natural Sciences. Named to Who’s Who in Food and Wine in Texas, Andrews also is author and illustrator of thirteen books, including American Wildflower Florilegium. She lives in Austin, Texas.



Jerry Anne DiVecchio is the former Food and Wine Editor for Sunset magazine. She has held positions in the American Institute of Wine & Food, and the International Association of Culinary Professionals.

We are from an area where Mexican food is very popular and love to experiment with Southwestern food. I can never have enough cookbooks in general, but this one is terrific because if goes into detail about the Southwest staple, the PEPPER! It is a must for anyone who wants to cook authentic Mexican food and have knowledge in that very important ingredient.

An excellent textbook

For those readers looking for a serious textbook on cosmological inflation, this is it!But of course, they should beware that it is fully technical, and has nothing to do with Andrew Liddle's small book, "An Introduction to Modern Cosmology". This is the real stuff, written by two experts who were instrumental in the development of the "slow-roll inflation" paradigm, and summing up all the latest developments in modern cosmology.
Starting with a small introduction about the hot Big Bang, the authors go on to an in-depth treatment of inflation and its consequences. The simplest model is then exposed and developed into its extensions, such as the Lambda-CDM model, the currently accepted model of inflationary cosmology.
Needless to say, the book offers also a fairly detailed treatment of the CMB and its anisotropies, acoustic oscillations and perturbation theory, and the CMB power spectrum, which are the latest tools in cosmological research.
However, those who are looking for a complete treatment of CMB anisotropies will not find it here.They could turn, for instance, to many articles on arxiv, e.g.the one by Ruth Durrer (astro-ph/0109522)which develops this subject in more detail.
All in all, this book by Liddle and Lyth will probably serve as a textbook on cosmology for the coming ten years.

A great resource for the novice or experienced NP!

Although the initial chapter on Clinical Reasoning and Differential Diagnosis is limited, it is a concisely written prelude to a wealth of focused symptom assessment strategies. As a practitioner and a faculty member in a nurse practitioner program, I have found this book to be an excellent teaching resource. Each chapter contains several of the most common symptoms related to a specific body system. For example, the cardiovascular and respiratory systems are represented by the symptoms of dyspnea, chest pain and cough. The overlapping of these systems is artfully woven together is a manner that consistently prompts the reader to be focused yet complete. Each chapter outlines key questions to ask and also provides analysis of the possible patient responses. Included is a relational inference between each symptom and age specific concerns. At the end of each chapter, the authors have developed "Differential Diagnosis" tables that are particulary useful to the novice nurse practitioner in a clinical setting. Overall the book's pocket size format lends it to easy reading and convenience.

Comparison to 2nd edition

Nice book. I have the 2nd edition and compared it with the newer edition. The 3rd edition is much the same as the 2nd but with 2 additional chapters--one on "Mood Changes, Behavior Changes..." and then one on clinical CXR (chest x-rays). Helpful book for students.

I am studying to become a Family Nurse Practitioner through Georgetown and absolutely love this book! It has by far the best practical clinical applications of any assessment textbook that I have ever used. I haven't even really used our other textbook in favor of this one. Easy to read- no fluff at all.

how to make your financial mind open and say "ah, ha!"

This book gives you access to all you need to know--from investing concepts to investing experts "private" vocabulary--to be a smart investor in a global economy, which resembles a lemonade stand much more than any of the pundits want us to know. Leveraging and hedging, stock price versus value, become clear in this translation of expert-speak to human-speak. "Lessons" will give you the knowledge and language you need to have the tools for life long financial success. And it's wonderfully written, filled with knowledge, brilliance, insight, and...humor. You'll refer to it again and again. This is truly a gift that will leave you richer in insight and understanding, as well as financially. There is always a risk attendant with investment, but this is a win-win deal.

Fantastic job

I'm already pretty familiar with investing principles and terms, but I gave Lessons from the Lemonade Stand a whirl on the recommendation of a friend.

The author does an unsually fantastic job of finding just the right language--just the right allusions, analogies, quotes and turns of phrase-- to explain the seemingly complicated fundamentals of investing. It's clear that he not only knows exactly how to articulate it in a way that is wholly accessible.

For an elegant, pragmatic, and actionable illustration of how investing game works, there is no better option than Lessons from the Lemonade Stand. Highly recommend!

I was looking for a straight-forward introduction to investing, something I knew nothing about except that I should probably be doing it. A friend at NYU recommended this professor's new book.

Mr. Berman has laid it out in a fantastically clear fashion - building step by step, chapter by chapter. The concepts were easy to grasp and I didn't feel like I was being "talked down to", despite the simplistic Lemonade Stand analogy. If you are looking to dive into investing, this is a great place to start. I cannot emphasize enough how foreign this all was to me when I began and how much more comfortable I feel now.
